Southeast Mountain Guides
Experience the Via Ferrata in the Red River Gorge KY! This is an outdoor cabled-climbing system. A climber on this course has a helmet, harness and two clips attached to their harness. All necessary climbing equipment is provided by Southeast. The cable is bolted to the rock every 5-8 feet which forms “loops of cable”. A climber will clip into this cable with both clips and when coming to a bolt, switch one clip at a time, past the bolts. To climb, a climber may grab the cable, but there are also the rock and iron rebar rungs as well.
Our course is not guided, but is supervised at all times. Before starting the course, climbers will participate in a hands-on orientation with one of our professional instructors. Once the climber and the instructor are comfortable, climbers are free to start the course, while the instructor supervises and is available if the climber needs aid.
The course has four levels of difficulties with multiple exit points along the way. Heights range from 30-120 feet. Climbers can exit the climb to take a break or get refreshment and then start again, where they had left off or they may repeat sections. Throughout the climb, clients are typically not more than 20 minutes from our facility and their vehicle. Most clients spend 4-6 hours at our facility.
Participants must be 10 years of age or older. An adult must be climbing with youth between the ages of 10-14. An adult can accompany up to 5 youth at a time. An adult must be 18 years of age or older.
